Six years on, vital bridge in Shopian awaits completion
Shopian: Even after a lapse of over six years, a vital bridge being constructed over Rambiara in Trenz area of Shopian district in south Kashmir is awaiting completion.
Locals said that the construction of the bridge was started in 2017, however, since then authorities start work for some time and later leave it midway.
They said that during the last six years work was started several times but was left midway without completing it due to which locals were left suffering.
Mudasir Ahmad, a local resident said that authorities work on the project at a snail’s pace that is why they are yet to complete it.
He said that in absence of bridge the locals are facing problems while commuting towards Pulwama where hundreds of local residents have to reach for jobs, education and business purposes.
“If this bridge will be completed, this will be the shortest route for us to reach industrial estate Lassipora Pulwama,” said Ubaid Ahmad another local resident, while adding that this route will pave way for hundreds of fruit growers to fetch their produce to cold store chains.
He said that work is going on the bridge but it is very slow and if the pace of the work will be same, it will take years more for completion.
Locals said that they are waiting for the day when this bridge will witness completion and after that a local cab service can also be started to benefit the local travelers and commuters.
They said that they have already informed the district administration about the delay in works but so far their grievance has not been addressed.
They once again requested the concerned authorities to ensure speeding up of the the construction work so that the project is completed.
An official from the district administration said that the bridge is 600 meter long and is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 31 Crore.
He said that work on the bridge is going on and it will be completed as soon as possible.
