Bridge connecting Shopian-Kulgam needs repairs, say locals

Shopian: A vital bridge connecting Shopian with Kulgam districts is lying in dilapidated condition and as a result the public is facing huge inconvenience, locals said.

People from different areas of Shopian said that bridge at Dangam Shopian has got damaged and needs immediate repairing.

Irshaad Ahmad, a local resident said that the bridge was constructed by the Army some 25 years back but since then the government has failed in constructing a new bridge there or even repairing the existing one.

He said that plates of the bridge have got damaged at several spots and accidents are happening frequently at the spot.

Ehsan Ahmad, another local resident said that bridge is unsafe and can prove fatal if immediate steps won’t be taken.

Locals said that since last eight years government is claiming that new bridge will be constructed at the spot but nothing is being done on ground.

They said that the bridge is very important as it is connecting hundreds of villages with each other.

They said that despite taking the issue with the higher ups and other public representatives several times, no concrete step has been taken.

The locals have once again requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
