Shopiam: Unscheduled power cuts in Saidpora and its adjacent areas in South Kashmir’s Shopian are giving a tough time to the residents, locals alleged Saturday.

The local residents while expressing resentment against PDD for failing to provide scheduled power supply to their localities in this pious month of Ramadan said that the past few days have been very tough on them vis-à-vis availability of electricity.

The residents while holding protest outside Executive Engineer’s office in Shopian said that they are reeling under hours of power cuts daily and despite repeated requests to the PDD department no attention was provided towards their plight.

“We are facing hardships due to the pesky power cuts especially during night hours. If PDD is unable to provide uninterrupted scheduled power supply then they don’t have the right to charge us for electricity,” said, Mohammad Abdullah a local Auqaf member.

The frequent power cuts have also badly affected the students adversely as their board exams are going on, he said.

He said that frequent power cuts make life difficult during Ramadan.

Locals said that this issue has been brought in notice of concerned authorities’ number of times but the situation hasn’t changed on ground.

The residents have now appealed LG and district administration to look into the matter.
