Empowerment: Two Pampore women start mini-dairy farms, earn livelihood

Pulwama: In order to become financially independent, two married women from Pampore area of Pulwama distric in south Kashmir have started two separate mini-dairy farms in their localities.

Shaheena Iqbal (32 )and Shaista Banoo (40) from Shaar locality in Khrew Pampore hamlet of Pulwama district have started their dairy farms last year and are earning their livelihood very well.

Shaheena Iqbal said that she took loan last year after joining Self Help Group(SHG) and bought two cows so as to earn a livelihood.

“Presently we have three cows and are selling milk around 10-20 litres on daily basis due to which we are managing our family affairs very well,” she said.

Shaista Banoo also said that she has been part of SHG for last four years and have bought cows with the help of loan provided under Umeed sceheme.

“We have been earning our livelihood with the help of this mini dairy farm very well and are planning to increase the number of cows at the farm,” she added.

Both Shaheena and Shaista said that the whole credit of their success goes to Umeed, because of which they was able to start farms to earn a livelihood for themselves.

They said that Umeed is a ray of hope for rural women and when uneducated women can get benefit from it, then why can’t the educated women seek benefit from Umeed.

“Women who want to become financially independent must take help from Umeed and establish any unit,” they said.

“Educated women shouldn’t sit idle at home rather they must take benefit of different government schemes and make a start and one day they too will be successful,” they said.
