Eutrophication a threat
Letter to the Editor
Dear Sir,
Eutrophication is an ailment of the ecosystem, response to the addition of artificial or natural nutrients such as nitrates, potassium and phosphates through fertilizer (sewage, industrial wastes etc) that fertilize the aquatic ecosystem.
It is predominantly caused by the leaching of phosphate and nitrates containing fertilizers from agricultural lands and industries into lakes or rivers. The growth of green algae on the lake surface layer is the physical identification of a eutrophication which not only makes aquatic plants and animals to perish but also makes water unfit for drinking therefore awareness and prevention of eutrophication is important and imperative therefore the awareness program on eutrophication has to be carried out by concerned regime swiftly.
