Baramulla, Mar 18: Police on Saturday said that they have arrested five extortionists and recovered extortion money from their possession in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Police in a statement said that they received a written complaint from a person (name withheld) wherein he stated that on 27 February, 2023 he was on way to his home on reaching Shalteng Sheeri area of Baramulla, five persons reportedly drug addicts, assaulted him and snatched Rs.20000 from him.

Police in this regard has registered a case FIR No. 18/2023 under relevant sections of law in PS Sheeri and investigation was initiated

Police said that after strenuous efforts theyarrested all five accused persons and identified them as Nasir Ahmad Dar S/o Mohammad Amin R/o Shalteng Sheeri, Irshad Ahmad Malla S/o Ghulam Din, Umar Akbar Ganie S/o Mohd Akbar, Tajamul Bashir Malla S/o Bashir Ahmad & Waseem Ahmad Malla S/ Manzoor Ahmad Malla all are residents of Sheeri Baramulla.

Extortion money of Rs. 20000/- was also recovered from their possessions and all the accused were taken into custody immediately, the statement added.
