Anantnag: The historical Wazir Bagh Park in the heart of Anantnag town has become a victim of official apathy as it is lying in dilapidated condition and carving for government attention.

Locals said that no attention has been given for the maintenance of this historical public park for the last many years.

“The park is losing its glory,” they said.

The residents said that people from different areas visiting the town would enjoy the beauty of the park, located on the bank of river Jhelum.

“But due to lack of attention towards the park, it has lost its glory due to which hardly any people are visiting the place,” the locals said.

They said the visitors have been raising their queries about the pathetic condition of the park but to no avail.

“There used to be huge rush of children and other people in the park but due to its dilapidated condition very few people visit the place,” the locals added.

“People from different areas were coming to the park for picnic but it is no longer the case and administration has failed to take up developmental works there, said Irshad Ahmad, a local resident.

“The park is still under the control of department of floriculture but no developmental activities are being taken up at the park so as to attract more people,” he added.

“The government needs to take immediate steps to retrieve its lost sheen,” he said.

Locals said they brought this issue to the notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing was done so far.

The locals urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard.
