Director Agriculture Kashmir kick-starts Vegetable Seedling distribution
Says Vegetable seedling distribution campaign to continue
SRINAGAR: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal Wednesday visited Vegetable Seed Multiplication Farm Gangbugh and kick-started the distribution of Vegetable seedlings among the farmers of the area.
Addressing farmers, Director Agriculture expressed satisfaction and said that the department has to a large extent succeeded in providing early season seedling of different vegetable crops to the farming community.
He said that it is very early in the case of many vegetables but the department has already started the distribution of seedlings at many places in the valley and in the coming days this process will continue across the region.
Director Agriculture said that the department is committed to provide quality planting material to the farmers. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that sufficient quantities of seedlings are provided to the farmers.
He said that vegetable cultivation is now not only restricted to the rural areas but is gaining popularity in urban areas as well, therefore the department has to play a big role.
Director Agriculture said that valley wide seedling distribution will continue in a phased manner. He said the demand for vegetable seedlings is increasing every year as backyard farmers, kitchen garden lovers are increasing and this trend is encouraging for the overall development of the agriculture sector.
