Pulwama: The residents of Rathsuna in Tral hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded construction of a bridge in the area. The locals said that a bridge that was built over nallah Watal Ara suffered damages during the 2014 floods and since then no attempt was made to construct a new one or repair the old bridge.

The residents of Rathsuna village said that the bridge was damaged in the area during the 2014 floods and since then the people have been demanding its repairs and better road connectivity but to no avail.

The locals said that have even provided their private land for construction of a road so that the area could have been connected with main Tral Township.

“The road has already been constructed but the bridge that would have connected the village to Tral township has not been constructed,” they rued.

“Despite construction of the road we are yet to get connected with town through this road as a bridge on nallah Watal Ara is yet to be constructed,” they said.

Irshad Ahmad, a local resident said that road has been constructed but due to unknown reasons the bridge hasn’t been constructed.

He said that in absence of a bridge the road serves no purpose and the people have been left suffering.

Locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups time and again but nothing has been done on ground.

“Officials have assured several times that work will be started soon but such assurances proved hoax on ground,” the locals alleged.

They requested the higher ups to look into the matter and construct the bridge at an earliest so that locals can feel some relief.

Meanwhile, an official of the local administration said that a DPR for construction of the bridge has been submitted and they are hopeful that work on the bridge will be started soon.
