Sopore: The residents of Mahrajpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged a protest demanding augmentation of the transformer installed in the area a few years ago.
Scores of residents of Mahrajpora area including women assembled outside PDD office Sopore to stage a protest against PDD.
The vehicular movement was affected due to the protest for an hour.
The protesters were shouting slogans against PDD and said the existing 250 KVA transformer in their locality develops technical snags frequently, leaving inhabitants to suffer.
“For the last four years we have been taking up the issue with the concerned officials but to no avail,” a local resident said.
Manzoor Ahmad Lisoo, a local resident said that during the last three months the transformer got damaged several times, giving a tough time to the elders and the student community.
“There are around 450 households which get supply from the existing transformer but due to heavy load during winter months the transformer remains defunct most of the times,” he said.
The locals sought an additional 250 KVA transformer for the huge populated locality or augmentation of the existing transformer from 250 KVA to 500 KVA.
“The government must look into the matter at an earliest,” the protestors said.
An official of PDD Sopore said that the matter will be looked into
“We will resolve the grievances of the residents soon,’ he said.
