Pulwama: Dozens of government employees who attained superannuation in the recent months and those who have applied for GP fund releases are waiting for their pensionary benefits.

They said that hundreds of employees have retired in Kashmir in the last three months and complained that the government was resorting to dilly-dally tactics in releasing pensionary benefits for unknown reasons.

A retired employee said that he along with dozens of employees are waiting for pensionary benefits like gratuity and final GP fund.

“Almost all the cases from the last four months are pending due to which our families are suffering,” he said.

He said that some retired employees, who have chronic patients, have applied for GP fund but they are waiting to get the benefits

“The delay has caused a financial crisis affecting their families. Government must take its cognizance at an earliest,” said another retired employee.

“We deserve some respect and we shouldn’t be forced to visit concerned offices every day,” he said.

The retired employees said they are made to run from pillar to post by visiting treasuries on a daily basis.

They urged the authorities to look into the matter and address the issue at the earliest.

An official of the treasury said that there are 70 crores pending in Pulwama district. “The demand and requisition has been already sent.  We are expecting that funds will be released soon,” the official said.
