Pulwama: Despite the passage of around six years, a hospital building in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is lying abandoned.

The residents of Hari Parigam Awantipora said that the PHC building in their area was lying defunct for the last six years.

“The existing centre is carving for basic infrastructure as it is working in a rented building,” a local resident said, adding that they are forced to visit Sub District Hospital (SDH) or district hospital for minor ailments.

They said that the hospital building was completed years before but it was yet to be made operational for unknown reasons.

“With no watch and ward from the department, the abandoned buildings are being used for illegal activities and are getting dilapidated with each passing day,” the locals complained.

The locals said the windows, doors and washroom are broken while the electricity fitting has been also damaged as well.

“Unfortunately, the building is used by drug addicts due to which eve teasing incidents are common in the area,” a local resident said.

The locals said they brought the issue to the notice of concerned authorities several times but no attention was given to the grave issue.

“Officials visit the building but nothing is being done to make the building operational,” the locals said.

An official said that the health center will start functioning from the new buildings after the executing agency will complete the minor pending work.
