Anantnag: Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JKB) installed at Sangam in Bijbehara hamlet of Anantnag district has been left out of order leaving the customers anguished.

The locals said the ATM often develops technical snag while the Bank authorities are least bothered to look into the matter.

The locals said that due to the defunct ATM, the people from Sangam and its adjacent areas have to visit Bijbehara, Anantnag and other distant places for withdrawal of cash.

The locals blamed bank officials for deliberately leaving the ATM machine out of work or setting transaction limits.

“When we complain about the defunct machine, the officials convince us by saying that the ATM has shortage of cash,” the locals said.

Locals said they are not able to withdraw money at ATM Sangam and go to Bijbehara on a daily basis.

Customers say that the ATM remains mostly defunct despite being along the highway and located at a prime location.

“Despite our complaints on a daily basis, the ATM remains non-functional most of the time and since the last eight days it has been defunct,” said Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, a local resident.

They said that the ATM remains defunct for three to four days in a week on an average, adding to the suffering of customers.

“From the last eight days, the ATM is defunct and no attention is being given towards it,” the locals said.

They said the issue was brought to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail as ATM continues to remain defunct.

The locals urged the higher ups to look into the matter and replace this defunct ATM with a new one so that they do not face this problem anymore.

Meanwhile, locals from Halmulla Sethar in Anantnag district also said that the ATM in their area was out of order for the last five days.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter.
