Pulwama: Scores of Permanent and Temporary daily labourers of Power Development Department (PDD) on Thursday staged a protest in Pulwama district to press for their long pending demands.

The protesting workers assembled at PDD office Pulwama and raised slogans to register their protest.

The protesting employees said that they (PDL and TDL) risk their lives by climbing poles during snowfall to ensure power supply to the whole J&K which at times costs them their life while repairing wires.

“Despite working day and night, our files are gathering dust in the department and they are made to run from pillar to post. Our files are yet to be sent to the higher ups in the department,” a protesting employee said.

They said their files are lying in the office of Executive Engineer PDD for unknown reasons noting that the officer has resorted to inordinate delay to forward the files to Superintendent Engineer (SE) and Chief Engineer of the department.

“In 2019 our DPC was held but due to unknown reasons permanent orders are yet to be issued,” he said.

They said some files are still lying in division offices and are not being forwarded to higher ups due to unknown reasons.

“We were hundred times assured by the concerned authorities that our demands will be fulfilled but their repeated promises and assurances proved a hoax on ground,” he said.

They said that higher authorities are deliberately delaying their issues which include issuance of regularisation orders, submission of pending files of those employees who have completed five year service in the department.

“If our demands are not fulfilled immediately, we will go on an indefinite strike from January 20 of this year,” a protesting employee said.

They said that even families of daily wagers who have died in line of duty have to wait for years together for ex-gratia relief and other benefits.

They urged the J&K Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha for his personal intervention in the matter on humanitarian ground.
