Shopian: The residents of Yedpora in Keller sub division of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday demanded construction of a bridge over a local nallah Lar.

The residents said that they are facing huge inconveniences in the absence of the bridge in the area.

“Our children are studying in schools which are lying on the other side of the nallah and have to go through a makeshift bridge which gets washed away every summer,” the local residents said.

Tanveer Ahmad, a local resident, said that they are facing a lot of problems in the absence of the bridge especially at the time of emergencies.

“Yedpora is lying on the Pulwama and Shopian border and administration of both districts have failed in taking cognizance of the grave situation,” he said.

He said that the makeshift bridge gets washed away every year adding to the miseries of the people.

“We remain connected with  Pulwama through a makeshift bridge only,” said another local resident, Irshad Ahmad.

He said that the government has spent lakhs in making makeshift bridges but does not take any initiative to construct a concrete bridge here.

“We knocked on the doors of every government authority to get their issue redressed but to no avail,” the locals said.

The residents said that they hope that J&K LG Manoj Sinha and DC Pulwama and Shopian will personally look into the matter.

“We again urge the government to look into the matter and construct a bridge at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief,” they said.
