JKTPO’s GeM onboarding drive of ODOP reaches district Budgam

BUDGAM: Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation (JKTPO) in association with Invest India (ODOP team) and District Administration Budgam on Tuesday organised an onboarding drive of one district one product (ODOP) of Budgam.

The program highlighted Kani Shawl on Government e-Market place (GeM) for potential exporters, societies and artisans of the district at CFC, Kanihama.

On the directions of Principal Secretary to Government, Industries and Commerce Department, Prashant Goyal, JKTPO is reaching out at district level to promote local ODOP products and to educate entrepreneurs/artisans regarding the benefits of selling products on Government e-Market place.

The drive is in line with the planned drives to be held across the UT for the onboarding of ODOP products on GeM platform. This is the second district level drive for onboarding of ODOP products on GeM in a row after Ganderbal.

Kani Shawl is GI tagged and ODOP of district Budgam under District as Export Hub Scheme/ODOP initiative. Kani Shawl is a type of Kashmir shawl originating from the Kanihama area of the Kashmir valley

The event was chaired by SDM Beerwah, Taufeeq Ahmad Qazi and while addressing the gathering he said “Kanihama has a great potential for Kani shawls and on boarding on GeM will help them to get direct orders which will minimise the scope of middleman”. He added, Kani Shawl has been selected as ODOP (One District One Product) from district Budgam and has immense potential for exports.

The district administration is working in full swing withGovernment and other export institutions to promote the Kani shawl and make Kanihama “Village hub of exports” under District as Export Hub Initiative.

The drive was attended by the 55 artisans, societies and exporters from district Budgam and also by officers of Handicrafts and Handloom Deptt. The working and benefits of Government e-Market place (GeM) was explained in detail and the working of the portal was demonstrated. The participants were given the opportunity to interact with experts from JKTPO & Invest India and all the queries related to GeM portal were resolved.

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is an online platform for public procurement in India. To provide forward market linkages for ODOP products on this portal, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce has taken a joint meeting of all States/UTS in which it was informed that “ODOP Products” are to be onboarded on GeM portal and “District Collectors” have been designated as OEMs to facilitate the GeM portal onboarding drive at district level.

Artisans, Farmers, FPOs, Artisan Organizations, SHGS, Small entrepreneurs of “ODOP Products” can get onboarded on GeM portal without any fees and GST.

The onboarding will open the Government market for ODOP products especially for gifting/souvenir purposes during major government events, conferences, summits especially in view of various G20 meetings to be held across the country in 2023.

During this day-long drive 30 Kani Shawl sellers were onboarded on GeM on spot free of cost and rest started the process of onboarding.

JKTPO is providing both physical and e-commerce marketing platforms to entrepreneurs of Jammu and Kashmir at the National and International levels. Initiatives like participation in trade fairs/exhibitions, on boarding drives on GeM, ONDC and other e-commerce platforms, Export awareness programmes at District level will help to improve the overall trade and export ecosystem of UT of J&K.

A similar onboarding drive is scheduled for Kupwara and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir in next coming days.
