Sopore: Scores of residents of Nowpora Jagir in Baramulla on Tuesday held a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to provide electricity to their area as per the curtailment schedule.

The protestors blocked Putkha-Wagoora road for hours and they are reeling under darkness for the last one month due to frequent power cuts.

“The frequent power cuts has become a daily routine in our area,” the protesters said.

The traffic movement on the road was halted for some time due to protest while the traffic was later restored after the intervention of police.

The police assured the protestors that their “genuine” demand will be conveyed to the higher ups in the administration.

“We have brought this issue into the notice of the concerned officers several times, but nothing has been done so far. The department is not adhering to any power schedule,” the protestors said.

They urged the administration and PDD to ensure uninterrupted power supply especially during peak hours.

“If our demands are not met we will continue to hit roads,” they said.
