Pulwama: The residents of Hardumir village in Tral hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday demanded  proper drainage system in their area.

The residents said their area is located just two kms from Tral town but has been deprived of proper drainage facilities causing huge inconveniences to them.

“In absence of proper drainage facilities, we face a lot of problems particularly at the time of rains and snow as inner roads get submerged,” said Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident.

He said that in times of emergency, the residents suffer a lot and it becomes really difficult for people to offer prayers in Mosques as whole areas remain inundated.

“Despite being the nearest village to Tehsil headquarters, it has been neglected by authorities,” the locals said.

They said that in the absence of a proper drainage system, the rainwater gets accumulated on roads and inundates their lawns as well.

“There are every apprehension of severe damage to our houses if the situation continues to remain the same,” he said.

The residents said that despite repeated requests made to the Rural Development Department, nothing was done so far.

“We always return disappointed after getting mere verbal assurances from the officers,” the locals said.

The residents sought intervention of district administration and strict instructions should be passed on to the concerned department to address their genuine demand.
