Pulwama: The residents of Nownagri village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday staged a protest against authorities for its failure to repair the leakage in a water tank which has resulted in landslides in the area.

The residents blocked Pulwama-Chakoora road and demanded intervention of the Government in this regard.

The protestors said there was less flow of water from last one year from the water tank but the issue did not cause any damage.

“But from the last few months the flow of water coming out of the Karewa along the roadside  has increased resulting in landslides,” a local resident said.

The locals said water flows through the road making it slippery, causing inconveniences to the masses.

“In the last few days many people have received injuries due to the slippery conditions of the road,” they said.

They said even on Tuesday, three persons were injured after their car they were travelling in slipped off the road.

They said that if the government won’t take steps immediately, the road connecting dozens of villages can also collapse besides that the residents living on the road are also in danger  along with their properties.

Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They urged the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and other officials to personally intervene so that any incidents can be averted.
