Pulwama: Unusual scenes were witnessed on Thursday at Block Development office Pulwama after a contractor locked the office over the delay in release of the payment by the department for the last one year.

The contractor identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said he carried out repairing and renovation work of BDC Chairman Pulwama last year but the payment for the same was still awaited.

“I am going through a tough time and am not able to pay the school fee of my children as my payment has been kept withheld for unknown reasons,” he said, adding that he locked the BDO office to register his protest against the department.

He said that the office was inaugurated by DC Pulwama after completion of renovation work following which only 50 percent payment was released which is lying with ACD Pulwama.

“Whenever I visit the office of ACD, he attributes the delay to some tender issues. But I want to know if work has been done in 2021 then how he will release the tender for this work now,” the contractor said and demanded justice.

He urged the DC Pulwama and Pulwama police to take cognizance of the issue and help him in getting his pending payment released from the BDO and ACD office.

Meanwhile, the BDO office was re-opened after the contractor was assured that the payment will be released “very soon.”
