Newa residents demand upgradation of power infrastructure
Pulwama: The residents of Newa area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in against Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure in upgrading power infrastructure in the area.
The residents said the authorities were resorting to frequent hikes in power bills which has added to the misery of the people.
“Ironically, no step is being taken to upgrade power infrastructure in the area,” the residents said.
They said the authorities have inflated bills after enhancing consumption load without carrying out any survey.
“Despite increasing monthly tariff, the lines are still connected through trees in the area,” said Ghulam Nabi, a local resident.
The residents said the daily unscheduled power cuts take a heavy toll on the student community and the elderly people besides affecting the business units as well.
If the government has decided to increase the monthly fee then they must provide power supply as per the notified schedule and enhance power infrastructure in the area,” another resident said.
He said that LT lines in the area were weak and can prove fatal anytime.
“It is high time for the government to take immediate steps and address the grave issue,” the locals said.
The residents have already appealed to the PDD to revisit their decision especially in these tough times of economic downslide.
“These issues were brought to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” the locals said.
