Anantnag: A vital project of the World Bank being executed by ERA in south Kashmir has been awaiting completion for years, locals complained on Friday.

The project consisting of a five Kilometer road from Sangam to Khudwani is awaiting completion as work has been left abandoned due to unknown reasons.

The locals from the area said they provided land for the construction of the road without any compensation so that the project gets completed in a time bound manner.

“But the road is lying in a dilapidated condition at many spots due to which public is suffering,” the locals said.

Earlier, the work on the project was taken up by the executing agency in 2020 but was later abandoned.

“Since then no work has been taken up which has delayed the completion of the project,” the locals said.

The local said the completion of the vital road project will be used as an alternative route for people of dozens of villages of south Kashmir.

“We brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” they said.

The residents urged the higher ups to look into the matter and complete the project at an earliest.

Meanwhile, an official from ERA said that 90 percent of the work on the project was complete while the work on the pending portion will be started soon.
