Pulwama: The residents in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday complained that Municipal Committee (MC) Pulwama was dumping Garbage along a circular road causing inconveniences to the public.

The residents said the MC Pulwama after collecting garbage from different areas of the town dump it on the circular road Pulwama.

“The waste is dumped along the circular road near Government Degree College for women which causes inconveniences to the general public as well as the commuters and pedestrians,” a local said.

The residents said the garbage is dumped near the college on a regular basis which has made the spot filthy and unpleasant.

“All the dirt and heaps of garbage collected from the entire town is dumped here which is very close to the residential area. This leads to a lot of stink and attracts stray dogs as well,” Mukhtar Ahmad, a local resident said.

He said during the summer season, foul smell coming out of the heaps of garbage causes problems for the local shopkeepers as well.

“Despite having space available at many places, authorities have chosen this point to dump the garbage thereby creating problems for the inhabitants,” a local shop owner said.

The locals are apprehensive of the threat to kids saying that the dogs keep moving freely near the garbage point and have already bitten several persons.

“Our children do not dare to go along the route due to the fear of stray dogs,” he said.

The locals said the government has other options to dump the garbage but have chosen a circular road causing inconveniences to the public.

The locals have urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and stop dumping waste at the site.

An official of the MC Pulwama said that they have already identified a new dumping site in Newa hamlet of the district.

“The garbage lying along the circular road will be shifted to a new site very soon,” he said.
