Pulwama: The residents of Largam and Larow Jagir residents of Tral sub division in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday demanded installation of new power lines through non-populated areas.

The demand was put forth to do away with any untoward incident in the area.

The residents said that the government has planned to connect 33000 KVA lines from Largam receiving station to Aripal Tral receiving station.

“We are not against it as everyone needs electricity and want the advancement of the facilities as well. But our demand is that the government must install these lines through fields and orchards but not through populated areas,” a local resident said.

He said installation of 33000 KVA lines through populated areas will have a risk factor attached to it and can lead to untoward incidents anytime.

“Earlier, 11000 lines were installed through residential areas which has led to many accidents during previous years. So we do not want to put our lives at risk again,” said Mehraj U Din, a local resident.

He said that their land is available for the government through which the government can install poles for the line but the residents will not allow any installation through a populated area.

“If the government did not consider our grievances then we will come on roads to protest because the government plan can prove disastrous anytime,” another resident said.

Locals urged the higher ups to look into the matter on humanitarian ground and direct the concerned authorities to install the lines through non-populated areas.
