Pulwama: The residents of the Dalipora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the PHE department for its failure in providing potable water to the area.

The residents of Dalipora said they were forced to consume contaminated water which has increased apprehensions of water borne diseases among children and elderly people in the area.

“Our children and elderly people often fall sick because we are consuming contaminated water while the government was least bothered about the grave issue,” the locals said.

The residents are supplied water from the water supply scheme which is  a mixture of dirt and mud.

“The government claims that every household is connected with the Jal Jeevan mission but the situation of our town speaks volumes about the claims of the government. They have failed to provide potable water in towns and we can understand the situation of far flung areas,” another local said.

The residents said water borne disease can break up in the town any time if the authorities continue to provide contaminated water to them.

“We have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” the residents said.

They urged higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and ensure potable water is supplied to all the households.
