Kulgam: Despite the passage of around two decades, the sub district hospital building in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district is yet to see the light of the day.

The officials however claimed that the building will be made functional in 2023.

Locals said that the PDP-Congress government in 2003 sanctioned the new building for PHC Qaimoh which was later upgraded to SDH on demand of locals.

“The PHC was upgraded to a 50 bedded SDH and the building was to be constructed at Rs 19.34 crores,” a local said.

The locals said the construction of the building was started in 2003 but only pillars were constructed in around seven years.

“Later the work was left midway for years due to paucity of funds,” the locals said.

The locals said that 19 years passed since construction work was started but authorities are yet to complete the building which has badly affected thousands of people of Qaimoh and its adjacent areas.

“We have become the worst sufferers,” Sahil Ahmad, a local resident said.

The locals said that in absence of basic health care facilities, people are forced to visit private clinics and other government district or sub district hospitals for minor ailments.

“In the last 19 years we are being told only about the deadlines but dozens of the project have already missed several deadlines and the building is still incomplete,” the locals said.

The residents urged the higher ups to look into the matter and complete it at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.

A health official said that work on the building is going on in full swing and is likely to be completed next month.
