Shopian: The residents of Shopian town and its adjacent areas of the district on Monday complained of the frequent power cuts in their areas.

The residents said the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to provide electricity supply as per the notified schedule.

“Our areas witness frequent power cuts which has taken a heavy toll on our business houses which are dependent on electricity supply,” a local resident said.

The residents said they were receiving electricity for few hours for the last few weeks.

“Unscheduled and frequent power cuts have been persistent in the entire area since the last two weeks but there is no body to take cognizance of the issue,” said Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident.

The residents said that for the last one month the PDD has failed to ensure proper power supply as per their curtailment schedule which has affected them badly.

“We took up the issue with authorities only to return disappointed. They only give verbal assurances while nothing is being done on ground,” the residents said.

The residents urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile an official of PDD said the electricity remained affected in the area due to maintenance and augmentation work which will continue for another 10-15 days.
