Jammu and Kashmir has been on the priority list of every tourist. This being the reason that the region is witnessing massive influx of visitors and the rush will continue for the months ahead.
Kashmir is not only a summer destination but even during winters a huge number of visitors make a beeline to various destinations spread across Kashmir. Not only Gulmarg but even Sonamarg and Pahalgam have been witnessing an increased rush of visitors during winters.
This new trend however, needs to be taken seriously and all such measures need to be put in place that will ensure a cheerful visit for the visitors?
Ironically, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway is giving all sorts of troubles to the commuters especially during winters. This year the highway has started behaving obnoxious even though winters are still some months away. The highway has witnessed numerous closures making it difficult for people to travel on this highway. Even the truck operators carrying essentials and fruits had to undergo lot of miseries while crossing the highway.
Destination Kashmir needs no branding, however, the circumstances become scary as the highway plays spoilsport and the air travel turns out to be a luxury as the costs escalate with every passing day and it becomes difficult for the visitors and the locals to afford the costs.
As the Jammu-Srinagar national highway woes seem to continue and it looks that more time may be needed to make the highway all weather route, the authorities need to work out a plan to announce a low cost air service between Jammu and Srinagar at least during the coming winter months.
Even though, the clamor for having an airlines operating with cheaper rates is growing in Jammu and Kashmir, but it has so far escaped the attention of the authorities.
The skyrocketing airfares that will be witnessed by passengers travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar-Delhi circuit once tourist footfall increases tremendously is not only creating troubles for the common man but tourists too face the heat.
The exorbitant air fare during winter and the days when the highway witness’s closure has been a concern for the commoners as well as the tourism players. Though various initiatives were taken to control the prices but since all such activities have become market driven any outside intervention fails to break the ice.
Therefore, introducing a low cost air service is the need of the hour at least during the next few years till the region gets connected through rail network or the highway witnesses some improvement.
