Pulwama: A vital bridge on Pulwama-Sangam road in south Kashmir area is yet to see the light of the day despite passage of more than one year, causing multiple traffic snarls in several areas.
Locals from Niloora Pulwama said that last year construction of a new bridge was started, however it hasn’t been completed yet.
According to locals, a diversion has been made in the area connecting SIDCO Lassipora with the National Highway which witnesses frequent movement of heavy vehicles.
“In absence of a bridge, frequent accidents take place near the spot. Authorities have turned a blind eye towards the issue,” a local said.
Another local, Abdul Majeed who is also the numberdar of the locality said that the narrowness of the diversion leads to huge traffic jams as only one sided traffic can ply on the road which blocks the traffic movement from the opposite side.
“Students, officials and other people are suffering in absence of the bridge but authorities have failed to expedite the construction work on the bridge,” he said.
Locals said that they brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but they were given only verbal assurances.
The locals urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer R&B Pulwama Nisar Ahmad Lala said that work on the bridge will be completed within a month.
“We have procured some items from outside which are expected to reach here in the next 10 days and the installation process will also take a few days. Rest of the work has been already done,” he said.
