KV impact: Authorities lay water pipeline at Arigam village in Tral
Pulwama: The authorities of PHE department have laid the water pipeline to provide the potable water supply to the residents of Arigam village.
The move comes days after this newspaper reported about the scarcity of drinking water supply and highlighted the plight of the residents.
The residents said they were provided highly contaminated water from the existing water supply despite a new scheme sanctioned in 2018 at the project cost of 3.5 crore.
“There was no progress in execution of the project in the last four years,” the residents said.
Locals said the authorities took cognizance of the matter after it was highlighted by the Kashmir Vision newspaper and the process for laying the pipeline was started.
An official of the department said there was shortage of potable drinking water in the area but a new scheme was approved four years ago and work will be started soon.
“But we have decided to provide them water from Sharifabad Spring till the work on the new scheme is completed,” he said.
The residents have thanked the department for providing water from Sharifabad.
They urged the authorities to start work on the sanctioned scheme as well.
