Police busts OGW module, 04 militant associates arrested
Sopore: The J&K Police Sopore on Friday evening claimed to have arrested four terror associates along with arms and ammunition.
The J&K Police in a statement said that a joint naka was established by PC Sopore along with 22 RR and 179 battalion of CRPF at Gousiabad Chowk Chinkipora Sopore.
“During checking, a suspicious movement of two persons coming from Dangerpora towards Chinkipora was noted and were subsequently asked to stop, but they tried to flee from the spot,” the statement reads, adding that the accused were tactfully apprehended by the vigilant security forces.
“Upon their personal search two grenades were recovered from their possession,” the handout reads.
The Police have identified the arrested persons as Shakir Akber Gojree son of Muhammad Akbar Gojree of Kuloosa Bandipora and Mohsin Wani son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani of Chinad Baramulla
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested persons are OGWs of prescribed organization LeT and were in a constant search of an opportunity to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians,” the statement reads.
Accordingly a case has been registered at Police station Sopore under relevant sections of law, it reads.
“During the course of investigation apprehended OGWs further revealed names of other OGW associates which led to the arrest and recovery of further arms and ammunition which includes one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, seven live pistol rounds, 25 AK 47 rounds and explosive material,” it reads.
Police have identified other two OGWs as Himayun Shariq son of Shariq Rasheed Dar of Gousiabad Chinkipora Sopore and Faizan Ashraf Wani son of Mohammad Ashraf Wani of Nadihal Rafiabad
“Further investigation is going on into the case,” the police statement said.
