Officials pass the buck, locals suffer

Shopian: The building of vital Animal Husbandry (AH) centre in upper belt of Shopian awaits completion despite the passage of around 10 years leaving locals high and dry.
Amid the delay in completion of the Centre, the officials pass the buck.
Locals from Zawoora village of Shopian district said that authorities after repeated requests started construction of Veterinary centre in year 2012.
However, the work on the building is yet to be completed despite the passage of one decade.
“The building has started decaying as no attention is being provided by authorities to complete it,” Ghulam Mohiudin Khan, a local said.
He said that one storey of the centre was completed in year 2013 while the second storey of the building was completed two years ago.
“Since then it has been left abandoned,” he said.
Locals said that most people in the area are associated in cattle farming and in absence of facilities they are facing lot of problems.
“For minor issues we have to take our livestock to Shopian which becomes very hectic for us,” they said.
They said that currently centre was functioning from a rented building but due to space crunch no facilities are available there.
They urged the authorities to look into the matter and complete this centre at an earliest so that locals can have a sigh of relief.
Officials in Animal Husbandry department said they have repeatedly asked R&B department to complete this building at an earliest.
Officials from R&B however said that the building was incomplete due to paucity of funds.
“We are expecting release of funds from government after which building will be completed and handed over to concerned department,” the official said.
