Pulwama: The subscribers of private and government telecommunication companies on Monday complained about poor calling and internet services in Khellan village of Litter hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The subscribers of Airtel, Jio and government telecommunication company BSNL said the Khellan village consists of around 400 households but the cellular companies have failed to provide cellular services.
“We cannot make any calls even during emergencies and we are living without proper connectivity in today’s world which is like living in the dark age,” Abrar Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that most of the work in the modern era are done on mobile phones but in absence of proper connectivity, they have to visit offices for minor things.
“World is moving towards 5G internet connectivity and we don’t have basic cellular connectivity to call our friends, relatives and others,” said Manzoor Ahmad, another local resident.
“We usually move to other places to make phone calls as our phones remain out of service, when we stay indoors,” he said.
Locals said that the student community suffered a lot in the last three years owing to the poor internet services and were not able to attend online classes during Covid pandemic.
“Students had to go to nearby areas in search of mobile connectivity to attend their classes,” he said.
In the present era, all the services and schemes are available online but the poor cellular and internet services in this village deprives them of benefits of various government schemes.
“We brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but despite repeated assurances nothing was done on ground,”: he said.
The residents appealed to concerned authorities from the government as well as private cellular companies to install towers in their areas, so that they can avail mobile phone network facility in this modern era.
