FSC&CA dept refutes news
Srinagar: The FCS&CA Department on Wednesday refuted a news item carried by a section of the media alleging sale of ‘plastic rice’ at government outlets.
“It has come to the notice of undersigned that some social media platform circulated a news regarding supply of plastic rice by the FCS&CA Department. The matter of the fact is that the rice shown in the video clip is Fortified Rice which is being supplied to address the issue of malnutrition amongst children,” FCS&CA department said in a handout.
“The Government of India has started an initiative to supply Fortified rice as per the standards fixed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It has prescribed blending rice with three micronutrients Iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12. The news item circulated is fake, misleading and seems a deliberate attempt to defame the government and malign the image of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department,” it said.
It is as such requested that legal action may kindly be taken against the said news portal/journalist for circulation of false news without verifying its genuineness and without taking official version related to the said news, which has created panic amongst general public, the handout added.
