Kulgam: Despite the passage of more than eight years, a vital bridge connecting dozens of villages of Kulgam with DH Pora sub division is awaiting completion due to which people living in the area are suffering.
The residents of Adijan and its adjacent areas in DH Pora Kulgam said that a bridge over stream was washed out during 2014 floods and soon after that a new bridge for the area was approved.
“Work on the bridge was also started for few months and was later suspended. Since then around eight years have passed and it is nowhere near completion,” the residents said.
Mujtaba Ahmad, a local resident said that an alternate road was constructed in the rivulet for temporary connection between people of two sides.
“But it gets washed away every time when water level increases in the rivulet and people remain cut off for weeks together,” he said.
The residents said the width of diversion is narrow and only a single vehicle can cross at a time.
“The spot witnesses huge traffic mess when two vehicles come from opposite sides,” he said.
The residents said the construction was going on at snail’s pace and it seems it will take years to complete.
“People of both sides are forced to use longer routes in absence of bridge which consumes more time and money as well,” he said.
Locals said that they approached the concerned authorities a number of time but to no avail.
They urged the J&K LG to look into the matter and direct concerned authorities to expedite the pace of work so that it gets completed at an earliest.
Meanwhile, an official of district administration said that construction work was going on in full pace and bridge will be completed by October-November this year.
