Pulwama: In a first of its kind, a road connecting Kawani village in Litter Tehsil of Pulwama district was macadamised by the Public Works Department (PWD), putting an end to the decades-long miseries and sufferings of the people.
Following the macadamisation of the road, the residents of Kawini village were excited after seeing the vital road macadamised for the first time ever.
“Since 1947 we have never witnessed macadam on this road connecting village to rest of the district and other towns,” said Ghulam Mohammad, an elderly resident of the areas
He said that this village was ignored by the successive governments and officials hardly bother to visit the area.
“This is for the first time that this road is being macadamised which has brought happiness to the whole village,” he said.
Ishfaq Ahnad, another local from the village said the school going children, elderly people and patients were suffering as the road would get submerged in water during rainfall and has developed potholes as well.
“We knocked the door of every higher authority several times in this regard but nothing was done on the ground. Finally, our voice has been heard after decades,” he said.
The locals said that since the last three years, they have continuously taken up this issue with higher ups of Roads and Building department and finally the road was macadamised.
Locals of the area thanked media especially Kashmir Vision for highlighting their demand besides Chief Engineer R&B, District Magistrate Pulwama and Executive Engineer R&B district Shopian for fulfilling their demand.
