Water crisis trigger protest in Sopore

Sopore: Scores of residents including women of Tawheedabad Tarzoo area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district took to streets on Tuesday and staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for it failure to provide regular water supply.
The protesters mostly women staged a protest outside Jal Shakti department here in Sopore and blocked road which affected the traffic movement for an hour.
The protesters said they were facing immense hardships because of the shortage of drinking water since last many years.
“Unfortunately, the authorities hardly bother to look into this grave issue,” the protesting women said.
They said that their area in the entire town was worst affected due to non- availability of adequate water and has become one of major issues in the locality.
Another local residents Farooq Ahmad Wani said they approached jal shakti department many times but nothing has been done on ground so far.
“We are forced to drink contaminated water which affected our health,” he said.
Meanwhile official in jal Shakti department Sopore said that the water crisis in parts of Sopore town and its outskirts will be redressed very soon
“Water has been already supplied to the affected areas through water tankers,” he said.
