Even though most of us had written off any covid threat, the recent spurt in covid cases has meant that we can witnesses a fresh wave of the pandemic anytime if precautions and other measures are not taken.
On Friday India saw a single day rise of 21,880 coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,38,47,065, while the active cases rose to 1,49,482. Besides, the death toll climbed to 5,25,930 with 60 new fatalities.
Presently, the active cases comprise 0.34 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.46 per cent. The country’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020 and it crossed the grim milestone of two crore Covid cases on May 4 last year, the three-crore mark on June 23 last year and four crore cases on January 25 this year.
The spike in cases is being witnessed in many states and UT’s and what is worrisome is that the positivity rate in increasing with every passing day. Since the country has already crossed a 200 Cr vaccinations mark, experts have once again stressed on the importance of vaccinations.
Since it has been proved beyond any doubt that vaccinations saved lot of lives and helped in fighting the pandemic, time has once again come when precaution doses need to be provided to all the eligible people immediately.
For ensuring this even the Centre has asked all its departments to organise Covid vaccination camps at the workplaces for providing free precaution doses of the vaccine to the eligible employees and their family members.
In an order, the Personnel Ministry asked all the departments to enumerate the number of eligible employees and their family members to be vaccinated by precaution dose, separately for both types of vaccines — Covishield and Covaxin — so as to ensure optimum utilisation of resources.
As part of celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, government of India has recently launched a new initiative ‘COVID Vaccination Amrit Mahotsav’ to provide free precaution dose to all adult eligible population who have completed six months (or 26 weeks) from the date of administration of the second dose. The initiative would be implemented at government COVID-19 vaccination centres for 75 days from July 15 to September 30, 2022.
The precautionary vaccine doses are a must given the present situation and Jammu and Kashmir also needs a concerted effort in this regard. Right now we are also recording increased number of covid-19 cases and the trend it seems is assuming dangerous proportions with every passing day.
Not only is the administration of vaccinations an important task but sticking to the covid appropriate behavior should also be a priority among the people here. Though four districts have already notified the use of masks in public places across Jammu and Kashmir the other districts too should be directed to follow covid SOPs.
