Work on filtration incomplete since a decade

Pulwama: Scores of villages in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are getting supply of unfiltered water as the concerned department has failed to complete the work on filtration plant of the area.
The locals said they get unfiltered water supply scheme directly from the river.
“A decade has passed since the work was started on filtration plant but we continue to consume unfiltered and contaminated water which is supplied directly from the river,” a local resident said.
The residents of Alchibagh Pampore in Pulwama said the on filtration plant was started in 2012 but it was yet to be completed for unknown reasons.
“We have tested the water being supplied to us multiple times and everytime doctors declare it unsafe but we don’t have any other alternative so we are forced to consume same,” said Abdul Gani a local resident.
He said that by consuming contaminated water, people of the area often remain ill.
Locals said that they have taken up this issue with the higher ups several times but to no avail.
“The filtration plant is almost ready but due to unknown reasons work isn’t being completed on it,” he said.
They urged the higher ups to look into the matter and make plant functional so that locals too can get potable water.
