Macadamisation of road: Kulgam residents complain use of sub standard material
Kulgam: The residents of Arreh Mohanpora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday alleged that the concerned department used sub standard material for macadamisation of a vital road in the area.
The locals said the road was macadamised a week ago but it developed potholes, exposing the use of sub standard material by the contractor.
Locals alleged that a road from Kulgam-Shopian road leading to Awhatoo was macadamised in dead of night which raised doubts about use of material.
“Within two days, the whole stretch of the road developing cracks and potholes. he condition of road going through Arreh Mohanpora is like it was never macadamised and it seems pebbles have been scattered all over the road.
The locals alleged that the authorities used a very thin layer of sub standard material and did not clear the surface of the road.
“With the result the work done on the road has made condition worst than it was before macadamisation,” said Farooq Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that macadamisation of the road was started after years of representations to the administration especially PMGSY department to repair the road.
“It is our own tax what is being utilized on roads but it seems that there is only corruption in every department as there was no intervention from the department despite knowing that sub standard material has been used on the road,” he said.
Locals said this road connects scores of villages and was important since all fruit laden trucks of the area use this stretch to reach the national highway.
The residents appeal to J&K LG Manoj Sinha, Kulgam district administration and other officials to visit the place and take immediate cognizance of the issue.
“Strict action should be initiated against the company and officials involved in this negligence,” they said.
They demanded that road must be macadamised again at an earliest. “Otherwise we will be forced to hit roads,” the residents said.
