SRINAGAR: Principal Secretary Skill Development Department (SDD) Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the progress on establishing 40 Centres of Excellence (CoE) for transforming engineering academia in collaboration with Tata Technologies at Civil secretariat here.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on proposed collaboration between the Jammu and Kashmir government and Tata Technologies for establishment of 40 CoEs. Out of this 20 CoEs are likely to be established in the current fiscal, with an aim of ‘Transforming Industrial Training Institutes as Technology Hubs’.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Samoon emphasised upon the representatives of Tata Technologies that all the requirements for establishing of these centres should be studied well in advance so that the centres can be made functional well in time.
He directed them to develop smooth coordination and synergy with the management of ITIs of Jammu and Kashmir so that these centres are established timely.
Dr. Samoon said that the technology upgrade of ITIs will lead to better employment opportunities for the youth. Besides, it will transform J&K into a potential investment destination for those industry players who are keen on embracing Industry 4.0 and smart technologies for manufacturing.
He said this initiative would greatly benefit MSMEs which cannot afford high-end technological equipment as they will be facilitated for usage at the ITIs as well as other technical institutions.
Dr. Samoon highlighted that through this collaboration with Tata Technologies, we intend to leverage our product engineering expertise and manufacturing domain knowledge to create future-ready courseware and training platforms that allow students at ITIs to develop their capabilities in the latest technologies and be part of the rapidly transforming ecosystem.
