Kulgam: The residents of Pooniwah village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are up in arms against the Jal Jeevan department for its failure to provide drinking water to the area.
The residents said the pipeline in the area was laid around three decades ago and was not upgraded till date, resulting in scarcity of drinking water facilities in the area.
“From the last 30 years, the population in the area has increased three times but the pipeline hasn’t been replaced till date,” said Mukhtar Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that the water crisis in the area majorly increases in the summer season.
“The area has been without water for the last several months due to which people of the area are facing hardships. We mostly face shortage of drinking water facilities in the summer season,” Mohammad Amin, a local resident said.
Locals said that they brought this issue to the notice of higher ups several times but were given only verbal assurances to resolve the issue.
“But all the assurances proved to be a hoax,” the residents said and urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
An official of the department said that area is being covered under Jal Jeevan Mission and the issue will be resolved as early as possible.
