Anantnag: The residents of Shamshipora and Hushanpora villages in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday demanded construction of a concrete protection bund on river vishaw for safety of locals.
The residents said that the river bank has developed cracks at some spots and there was need of immediate construction of concrete protection bund for the safety of locals.
“There are chances that water of the river can enter into residential areas and can cause damage to families as the river bank has developed cracks at several spots,” Gul Mohammad wani, a local resident said.
He said the water level of the river increased to a higher level during the recent rainfall. “There was a gap of just four inches between water level and the cracks developed on the bund. There was every apprehension of the damage to houses,” he said.
The residents said the issue was taken up with concerned authorities number times but to no avail.
“Department is constructing simple bund which doesn’t last for even few months so there is an immediate need of concrete protection bund,” Bashir Ahmed another local resident said.
Locals said that if protection bund will not be constructed at an earliest, it can prove fatal and can cause damage to around six villages.
They urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and construct concrete protection bund immediately so that locals won’t face any problems.
