Pulwama: The residents of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday complained against the Municipal Committee Pulwama for turning a circular road into a dumping site.
The residents said the authorities were dumping all the Garbage along a circular road, leaving people aghast.
“The Municipal Committee collects Garbage from different areas in Pulwama town and throws it on circular road Pulwama,” the residents said.
The garbage is dumped near Women’s Government Degree College making the area filthy.
“The garbage is dumped near the college due to which local residents, college going students and others are facing a lot of inconvenience,” they said.
Younis Ahmad, a local resident said that all the dirt and heaps of garbage collected from the entire town is dumped here which is very close to the residential area.
“This leads to a lot of stink and attracts stray dogs as well,” he said.
They said authorities chose this point to dump the garbage despite having space available at other locations as well.
“We fear safety threats for our children as street dogs roam freely and they have already bitten several persons here,” said Javaid Ahmad.
“Our children are fearing to go along the route due to the fear of stray dogs,” he said.
The locals urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and stop dumping waste at the present location.
Officials of Municipal Committee Pulwama acknowledged that locals are facing problems and said they are looking for alternative locations and we will find a way out to solve the issue.
