Koil Pulwama residents demand diversion of Chaterpura Nallah
Pulwama: The residents of Koil village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday demanded diversion of water of a stream flowing through the area saying that it was seeping into residential houses besides damaging their crops.
The locals said that the water level of the stream (nallah) increases at the time of rains which inundate their houses besides causing damage to their crops.
“There was another Nallah flowing from Chatterpora where water was being divided into two nallahs and it did not cause any damage to anyone,” Rameez Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that due to unknown reasons now whole water is being diverted into Nallah flowing through Koil Pulwama which has left the people at the receiving end.
He said the flood control and irrigation department has constructed temporary protection walls several times on the canal in Koil which got gets washed away most of the times due to rains.
“There is only way to avoid damage to crops and property that is to divide water of big nallah into two nallahs at Chatterpora,” they locals said.
The residents have sought intervention of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama in this regard.
