Narrow Chowgam bridge chokes traffic on vital Kulgam-Qazigund road
Kulgam: The residents of Kulgam have complained that a narrow bridge on vital Kulgam-Qazigund road chokes traffic on the road leading to massive traffic gridlock on the highway.
The bridge is located at Chowgam area of Kulgam district which connects the district with Qazigund road.
However, the narrow space on the bridge halts traffic frequently, causing inconveniences to the locals and tourists as well.
“A single vehicle can cross the bridge one time due to which the traffic of the other side gets blocked as only side traffic is allowed at one time,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a local resident.
He said the choking of the one side traffic leads to massive traffic jams on the vital road connecting Kulgam with the National Highway.
“The government is aware about the sufferings of people but have failed to take any step in this regard,” he said.
The locals said at times it takes hours to clear traffic near the bridge due to which the commuters especially patients and school going children suffer.
The residents urged the higher ups to look into the matter and construct a new wide bridge there so that traffic from both sides can pass through it simultaneously, bringing relief to the commuters.
