Srinagar: The residents and local visitors have demanded full macadamisation of Bijbehara-Langabal road leading to world famous tourist spot Pahalgam.
Locals said the road has developed potholes at several places causing inconvenience to local drivers and passengers. The road also creates a bad impression among the tourists as well, the locals said.
They said authorities have started patching on it but it won’t suffice given the flow of traffic on the road.
“Authorities should have carried out full macadamisation of this road on priority but they still are going only for patch work despite that fact it has not been macadamised for several years now,” said a local driver, Mudasir Ahmad who ferries tourists to Pahalgam almost on a daily basis.
“If authorities macadamise the link roads everywhere, why can’t they macadamise this important road which is significant from the tourism point of view,” he said.
Drivers said that some tourists have been forcing them to use this road as it passes through famous Apple Valley.
“We don’t know when it was macadamized last time, Said Mukhtar Ahmad a resident of Walarhama.
Locals as well tourists urged the authorities to fully macadamise this road.
An fficial in R&B department said they were able to carry out only patch work of this road due to paucity of funds.
“If more funds will be made available, then it can be fully macadamised,” he said.
