Police arrests two drug peddlers in Sopore, Bandipora

Srinagar: The J&K Police have arrested two drug peddlers from Sopore and Bandipora and have recovered contraband substances from their possession as well, a police spokesman said.
The handout reads that Police Station Bomai received a specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Nasir Akbar Wani son of Muhammad Akbar Wani resident of Tujjar Shareef Sopore hoarded and concealed Narcotic substances.
“On receipt of this information, a police team from Police Station Bomai Sopore headed by SHO PS Bomai intercepted and apprehended the accused drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Bun Astan Tujjar Shareef,” the handout reads.
“During search, officers were able to recover 105 grams of Charas like substance from the accused drug smuggler,” it reads.
The police said the accused has been shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Meanwhile, a police Party of Police Station Bandipora led by SHO Police Station Bandipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Bandipora, laid a surprise checkpoint at Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora.
“During checking, police party intercepted 02 suspicious persons who on seeing police party tried to escape from the spot,” the handout reads.
It reads that the person was later apprehended and identified as Mohammad Shafi Sheikh resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora.
“However the other person identified as Mohmad Ashraf Sheikh resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora managed to escape from the spot, efforts are on to effect his arrest,” the police handout reads.
During search, 70 grams of Charas, 04 illicit liquor & 03 Beer bottles were recovered from his possession, it reads.
“The accused has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” the handout reads.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” the Police in a handout said.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” it said.
