Incessant rains create flood-like situation in several villages of Sopore, Pattan

Sopore: Incessant rains over the past two days in the Kashmir valley created flood like situation in several villages of Sopore and Pattan areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
The most affected areas in Sopore were Tarzoo, Haritaar, Sher Colony, Ningli while Gundbal, KP Payeen, Khasipora, Khore and Hanjiwara,Trikolbal, Lolipora in Pattan were partially submerged due to flood like situation caused due to rainfall.
The flood like situation created panic among the residents as the residents said many residential houses were at the brink of getting submerged as flood waters breached from nearby Nallah’s in these areas.
“Water level continuously increased in Nallah’s since the last two days, which has created flood like situation in these areas and many villages have also been partially submerged,” a local resident said.
As the water level increased, people of these areas left their houses and moved to safer places as the lawns of their houses were submerged in water
An official in administration said that Police, flood control and revenue departments have kept a close eye on the situation.
“The rescue operation has been launched and their first priority is to save human lives, while men and machinery have also been pressed into service,” the official said.
