Residents demand early completion of project

Pulwama: A new water supply scheme has been sanctioned to supply potable water to Lalpora Chatlam villagers in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The Public Health and Engineering (PHE) department has started execution of the project with locals urging authorities for early completion of the work on scheme.
The project cost of the scheme is Rs 6.30 crore with OHT of 40,000 gallons. The scheme has been funded for the area under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
“The old scheme in the area was outdated and we were facing problems getting potable water,” said Mohammad Altaf, a local resident.
Locals recalled the difficulties they faced in getting regular drinking water supply in the area.
“We are facing a lot of problems in the absence of potable water. Now that the government has sanctioned a new scheme for the area, it has given us a hope that water crises will be over in the area,” Altaf said.
The residents hoped that the scheme would be completed within a stipulated time.
They extended their gratitude to the officials of PHE department especially Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Nawaz Ahmad for fulfilling their long pending demand.
“We request the authorities to keep continuous vigil on the scheme so that this scheme can be a model scheme of the area,” the residents said.
AEE PHE Pampore Nawaz Ahmad said the scheme will be completed by October this year and water crises in the area will be over after commissioning of the scheme.
“The land donor will also be compensated,” he said.
